Hancock

We saw the new Will Smith blockbuster over the weekend. I was really surprised. I was expecting “X-Men 4″. The turn midway through into a character movie instead of a straight out action movie was a somewhat welcome twist.

I managed to talk Tammy into going to see the new X-Men movie on out data night Sunday. It was somewhat at odds with the actual backstory from the comics and TV cartoons as they all have been, but all in all it was very enjoyable. I enjoyed the introduction of the “Danger Room” and the use of a Sentinel in their training session. They did a good job of not making Beast look too cheesy. I went into the theater with visions of a “Hulk” like CGI Beast in the fight scenes. Fortunately, they were quick shots and weren’t too distracting.

Lots of new mutants were seen with cool new powers. Plot twists kept things interesting, and a short run time meant for great pacing. I am a bit of an X-men geek, but I would have to give it an A- in spite of the twisting of the original mythology.

We saw Poseidon Saturday night and I was not terribly impressed. Like Titanic, knowing what is going to happen the whole time puts something of adamper on the experience. The action as fast paced and the effects were good. There were way too many corpses laying around for my taste. The language was clean, and there was nothing overtly sexual other than the dad not wanting his daughter fooling around under his roof.
It was tense beginning to end, and I left wrung out, yet still thinking I would never get those 2 hours of my life back.
I give it a C+.
